Modesty, Abstinence, and a love for a jealous God.
I AM SO PROUD OF THE BARLOW GIRLS. THEY HAVE REMAINED TRUE TO THEIR GOD EVEN IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS, AND SITUATIONS THAT COULD MAKE THEIR ‘HEADS SWELL’. I ENJOYED THIS VIDEO IMMENSELY, AND I HOPE YOU DO AS WELL.
ME
ABOUT from their website: barlowgirl.com :
Barlowgirl is an all girl band made up of three sisters: Rebecca, Alyssa and Lauren Barlow. (Can you guess how they came up with the band name?) For two years they traveled around the country and were the back up band for their dad. During one concert Lauren, who was the keyboard player at the time, caught sight of a drumset, fell in love…. and so a drummer was born. Soon after that the girls began experimenting with song writing and out of that came songs never to be played or heard of again
During that time they decided to start their own band and have been one for the past three and a half years. What happened to their father, you ask? Well don’t… kidding. He and his wife (ironically, the Barlowgirl’s mother) are now the girl’s managers. Yes, it is a family affair.
ALYSSA:
When was a defining moment in your life? When God called me to quit theatreI thought my life had just ended, but then He began the deepest, hardest work in my heart that lead me to Him
How do you spend your time with the Lord? I love getting up in the morning and sitting outside with my Bible and journal
What’s the Holy Spirit speaking to about these days? To praise no matter what. Sometimes I can get so caught up in all I feel He hasn’t done for me, that I begin to miss all He is doing.
Define “Purity” to you now that you’re years into this mission? To be set apart in mind and heart. To purpose to keep out those things that begin to cloud our thoughts and emotions.
What are your secrets of remaining pure? Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else guard your heart, for out of it flows the wellspring of life.
“What or who Challenges and keeps you accountable? My mom
What do you wish people could just get into their minds? That life isn’t all about us. We should have other things on our minds than just ourselves.
Give some of your secrets how you really dig into God’s word? Well, right now I have this great chronological Bible so that has been amazing to really dig into.
What makes you cry? Well, today I cried when my 3-year-old niece told me that she asked Jesus to come into her heart.
LAUREN:
When was a defining moment in your life? When I realized I couldn’t just live off my parent’s faith and I had to make my faith my own
How do you spend your time with God? Well, I’m usually sitting down but being on the road it’s so inconsistent on where you’re gonna get quiet times, but I find my best prayer times are on planes and at home of course.
What’s the Holy Spirit speaking to about these days? I feel like He is really increasing my passion for the things of Him. It’s so easy to get so liberal as Christians in this world today but I feel He is increasing my passion for what is truly right in this world.
Define “Purity” to you now that you are years into this mission? It’s the same as it was when we started. It’s a trust walk with God, knowing full well that He is taking us exactly where He wants us to go and in His timing He is going to bring our future spouses along. And for the record, we still don’t date and won’t date till our men come along.
What are your secrets of remaining pure? Lot’s of prayer and accountability.
What or who Challenges and keeps you accountable? My sisters and my family.
What do you wish people could just get into their minds? That they have an amazing calling on their life and that no matter what they have done or are currently doing, it’s never to late to get on the right path
God is your lover. How do you know that Heloves you so much? The only way to know is by taking lots of prayer time and reading His word and knowing all He has said about you is true
What makes you cry? Umm.. Pretty much everything, commercials, movies, books, seeing soldiers at the airport saying good-bye to loved ones (that one gets me the most)
What makes you fall on your knees in surrender over and over again? My inability to fix myself
What’s strength for you and what is your weakness? My greatest strength is my greatest weakness, and that my friends, is my mouth.
Give some suggestive tools or references to help those to grow more intimately with Christ. I find that reading books really helps me a lot with growing spiritually,– anything by Joyce Meyer is amazing, CS Lewis, and I find for me, reading books about amazing people who have impacted the world is so inspiring for me i.e. Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, Olaudah Equiano, William Wilberforce.
REBECCA:
When was a defining moment in your life? When God healed me of eating disorders I knew in that moment I was to dedicate my life to serving Him. For then I knew He was worthy of giving my life for.
How do you spend your time with the Lord? I try to make it a daily routine to go on walks “with” Him, and then I’ll take time to study His word
What or who Challenges and keeps you accountable? Reading books of great revivalists and hearing teachings by passionate preachers challenge me. As for accountability, I turn to my Mom. She does an amazing job at keeping me in check on a daily basis.
What do you wish people could just get into their minds? I hope for them to understand that their feelings are not to be the compass for their life. We need to turn to what God speaks in His word, His ways and His thoughts. It changed (and is changing) my life and I know it will change others.
God is your lover. How do you know that He loves you so much? He has proven His love in the things He has done for me. (My life is marked with times He has poured out His love on me through His gifts, time, words or a sense of his closeness) He also reminds me of His love through His Word.
Give some of your secrets how you really dig into God’s word? Start by praying for the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to understand the word and just read and wait. So often I find if I take the time to pray through one verse and ask “Spirit, what does this mean?” and I just wait and rest on it, the spirit will speak to me great revelation of the depth of the verse and how I can apply it to my life. It’s an awesome experience!Another way is by using a Strong’s exhaustive concordance to look up the key words of the verse in the original Hebrew or Greek. Often times I find that our language doesn’t grasp the full meaning of what is being said and the Strong’s truly helps. For an even greater understanding begin to study the Jewish culture. All the feasts and parables and stories will make and even greater impact when you see the stories behind it. I love viewing the bible as a sweet mystery and I love going to great lengths to unlock all it has for me. It’s more then words you read on its pages. It’s deep and has many layers; it’s a treasure hunt of the greatest kind.
What makes you cry? Goodness
What’s strength for you and what is your weakness? My greatest strength is my greatest weakness.

I would highly suggest for you, and any one else interested to read the book ““The Devil’s Delusion: Atheism and its Scientific Pretensions.” by self-professed secular Jew and mathematics/philosophies teacher David Berlinski.
This tells the story of a Jew who was forced to dig his own grave prior to being shot by a German soldier. Prior to being shot, the old Jewish man advised the German that “God is watching what you are doing.” The Jewish gentleman pointed what i think is the real problem with atheism. “If you have the time please check the book out
